Thanks to the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008, residential ground loop or ground water geothermal heat pumps installed after December 31, 2007 that meet or exceed EnergyStar requirements qualify for a one-time tax credit. This credit could be as much as 30% of the total investment for homeowners, and 10% for commercial systems.

This tax credit, however, represents just one of the many benefits now available to people who install geothermal heating and cooling systems at their homes and offices.

Geothermal heating and cooling units are the most energy-efficient systems on the market. Not only do they offer immediate savings of 50-70% on monthly heating and cooling costs, but they also can pay for themselves in just a few, short years. They also boast a reduced ecological footprint, longer life cycle, higher comfort level within affected buildings and the reduction of noise associated with other types of systems.

The only problem is that so few people know about the long-term financial rewards. Intimidated by the seemingly expensive installation, many consumers opt for less expensive, less efficient systems. “Most people don’t know much about geothermal heating and cooling. Educating them takes a little more time, but we all have to do our part to promote renewable energy,” said Gordy Noe, President of Pioneer Heating & Air Conditioning in Knoxville, Tennessee. “Every person who chooses geothermal is a person choosing to contribute to making a healthier planet.

In addition to advocating for geothermal systems, Pioneer further lives out its green mission by running its diesel trucks and excavating equipment on bio-diesel fuel. They hope to soon run all service vehicles on propane. To learn more about Pioneer or geothermal heating and cooling, visit www.PioneerComfort.com or call 865-922-2817.
