In the Blink of An Eye

In the Blink of An Eye

I’m a bit sentimental this week. Maybe a bit misty-eyed, too. I’m saying goodbye to an old friend.

One sweltering August, 16 years ago, our firm moved into an office on the mezzanine of the L&N Station building on the World’s Fair Park. Built in 1905 by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and saved from certain demolition by a renovation for the World’s Fair in 1982, the old passenger rail station was such a cool space. We were so excited to be here. Everyone had a “window office” that looked out onto the park.

Over the years, we expanded and moved downstairs to where we are today.

We’ve had some fun Christmas parties here, a fire that destroyed the office in 2001 (and almost the entire building), a water main break that flooded it, a summer luau on the plaza that celebrated the rebuilding, a thousand client meetings and staff meetings. We watched a couple discover each other at a party here and later marry. We watched a little kitten named Morris grow up here. We’ve seen some great employees and interns come and go.

We’ve done a little work here, too. And lots of Starbucks coffee drinking. Some foosball playing.

It’s been home.

In the blink of an eye, 20 years in the life of a company have past. 16 of those were here, in this grand, historic building. I am grateful for our time here.

If a building can have a soul, this one does. It has a spirit you can feel, and I’m going to miss it – more than I expected.

So, goodbye old friend. Thanks for taking such good care of us, and please take care of the STEM school students that will walk your halls soon.
