MCG Media Advisory: First Presbyterian Church Hosts Lecture Series

Knoxville, TN – The First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville will host the 2011 Presbyterian Women’s Lecture Series, featuring the Rev. Dr. William P. Wood, Pastor Emeritus of First Presbyterian Charlotte on Sunday, November 13, 2011 and Monday, November 14, 2011. Dr. Wood will be speaking on “The Seasons of a Downtown Church.”

The series is free and open to the public. There is free parking in the church garage and across the street in the State Street Garage. Child care is provided.

WHERE: First Presbyterian Church, 620 State Street, Knoxville, TN 37902

WHY: Begun in 1974 with a bequest from Miss Laura Pettway, the Presbyterian Women’s Lecture Series has provided stimulating reflections for the congregation of First Church and the Knoxville community for 37 years.

The Reverend Doctor William P. Wood was elected Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC, in 1983. Dr. Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts – History degree at Davidson College, in Davidson, North Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree and a Master of Theology degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Wood was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy – Old Testament-doctorate degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Wood also studied at the University of Heidelberg and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Tusculum College, Greenville, Tennessee. Dr. Wood was raised in Johnson City, Tennessee. Prior to assuming the Senior Minister position at First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC, Dr. Wood served as Associate Minister, First Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, Texas, and as Senior Minister, First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, Tennessee.
