Ice Bears to Honor Hurricane Sandy Victims, American Spirit during Friday’s game

Knoxville, Tenn.— The Knoxville Ice Bears will celebrate the nation’s greatest asset—its people—during “Pride in America” night at Friday’s home game against the Augusta Riverhawks. Prompted by the destruction of Hurricane Sandy, the evening will honor the victims of the natural disaster and the charity of the American spirit. Although Hurricane Sandy’s path was hundreds of miles away from the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, the tragedy was very real for three members of the Ice Bears team. Athletic trainer Deanna Palatucci, goaltender Kyle Rank and defenseman Steve Wiedler are all natives of that region of the country. Stuffed animals from this year’s annual “Teddy Bear Toss” will be distributed to children who have been displaced because of the hurricane’s destruction. The Ice Bears invite hockey fans of all ages to attend Friday’s game armed with a teddy bear and support those who need help most.
