Q&A: Joyanna & Tara—The Newest MCG Interns
Fall is officially here, which means new interns! To initiate our newest additions, we administered a short Q&A. Meet Joyanna and Tara.
Joyanna is our new design intern from Kansas City, Mo. She found out about Morris Creative Group from a friend who was previously a design intern at the agency. “She said it was a great experience, and I thought I could learn a lot with an internship here,” Joyanna said. Currently a student at Pellissippi State Community College studying graphic design, Joyanna said her favorite type of design is branding.
“I love when the logo and everything else comes together. It makes me happy,” Joyanna said. At MCG, she hopes to tighten up her design skills and gain experience working directly with clients. When she isn’t designing, Joyanna enjoys listening to audio books, making crafts and swing dancing.
What was your first job? I was the cashier in a grocery store.
What are you reading? Dracula. It turns out that it is a really scary book, but well written.
If you could change one thing about Knoxville, what would it be? I want the Sunsphere to turn into a disco ball at midnight that lights up and reflects over the city.
What is one of your favorite brands? Method.
What do you hope to bring to MCG? A helping hand. I want to help them out and be as useful as possible.
Tara is our other design intern from Murfreesboro, Tenn. She chose Morris Creative after she shadowed different design studios for AIGA design week. She was drawn to the people who worked here and the atmosphere of the agency. “ I like that the company does a wide variety of work, and it was the best fit for me in terms of style,” said Tara. Currently a student at The University of Tennessee studying graphic design, Tara said her favorite type of design is street marketing and performance art, because it gives her a break from sitting at the computer and allows her to be outside.
“I like being in a public space, because it is fun to see how people respond to the work,” said Tara. At MCG, she hopes to learn a variety of skills. “ I want to learn how to prepare files, work better with clients and pay more attention to detail,” said Tara. When Tara isn’t designing she sleeps, plays badminton and practices her jump-roping skills.
What was your first job? I was a photographer at The Daily Beacon, UT’s newspaper.
What are you reading? Four different books… One of them is by Bruce Mau, and I like flipping through and reading it for inspiration.
If you could change one thing about Knoxville, what would it be? It needs a train system because the city is so linear. It just needs a train. That’s it. It would be so much easier! And I would fix all the potholes and roads.
What is one of your favorite brands? Intelligentsia coffee. I love their logo and everything about them.
What do you hope to bring to MCG? Awesome ideas. Good concepts.
