Q&A: Micah & Shannon—The Newest MCG Interns

We are proud to welcome two new marketing interns to the MCG stable, Micah Brookshear and Shannon Drew. Meet the fresh-faced students through our tried-and-true Intern Q&A.

MICAH BROOKSHEAR
Micah Brookshear, a Knoxville native, is currently earning a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of Tennessee. He serves as the creative director of the Advertising Club at UTK, which is how he found MCG during an Ad Club agency tour.

“I fell in love with the office space and was astounded by the work MCG created,” he said. “I made it a goal to land an internship at MCG because I knew it would be a very beneficial experience.”

After graduating in May, Micah said he hopes to stay in Tennessee to gain work experience while earning a Master’s degree and then pursue a career in New York City. In his spare time, Micah enjoys making music and watching basketball.

What do you hope to learn at MCG? I want to learn as many different facets of the advertising business as I can. I hope to expand my creative writing skills, design skills, and personal relationship-building skills as well.

What was your first job? My first job was as host at Aubrey’s restaurant in Lenoir City, Tenn.

What are you reading? Aside from my school readings, I plan on reading Truth in Advertising by John Kenney soon.

If you could change one thing about Knoxville, what would it be? If I could change one thing about Knoxville I would make an extra highway beside I-75/I-40 going west. If I could change two things I would add a commuter train through the city.

What are your top three favorite brands?  1. Coke  2. Jeep 3. Billabong

SHANNON DREW
Hailing from Plymouth, Mass., Shannon Drew is finishing her senior year at the University of Tennessee, where she is majoring in advertising. Shannon said she wanted to intern at MCG to apply the skills she’s learned in school to real-life client situations.

“My very first internship was with Trademark Advertising, but I was new to my ad major so I did more learning than helping,” she said. “Now that I am about to graduate from my advertising program, I want to apply my abilities in an agency setting to find my niche within the industry.”

Currently, Shannon juggles her internship, campaigns class, and a job at the UTK bookstore, but plans to move to the New York area to work in advertising after graduating in May. “I plan to not be broke, but we will see how that goes,” she said.

What do you hope to learn at MCG? I hope to tackle as many different projects as I can. I want to hone in on my abilities and find out what I do best in advertising and what I need to work on.

What was your first job? Justin’s. It was a restaurant in Morristown, Tenn. The job was horrible.

What are you reading? I am re-reading the Harry Potter series—currently I’m on The Order of the Phoenix.

If you could change one thing about Knoxville, what would it be? Enough of the construction, already!

What are your top three favorite brands? Skittles, Charmin, and Oreo. These brands dominate social media and are fun to follow, especially Skittles. Hilarious.
